Transesterification Of Ethylene Carbonate

Aug 21, 2022Leave a message

The method of preparing ethylene carbonate by transesterification of diethyl carbonate and ethylene glycol is the transesterification method. The method is not complicated in terms of process, the key is to find a suitable catalyst. Using dibutyltin dilaurate and a trace amount of strong base as the catalyst for the transesterification reaction, under the reaction temperature of the xylene reflux control system, the by-product (ethanol) is continuously fractionated to reduce the diethyl carbonate in the process of distilling out ethanol. The loss in the system is increased, the reaction temperature of the system is increased, and the reaction speed is accelerated. Then directly add p-toluenesulfonic acid to neutralize and catalyze the prepolymerization reaction. The resulting oligomers are depolymerized at high temperature under the catalysis of high-efficiency cracking catalyst tin powder to obtain cyclic carbonate. The yield of the final product is ≥75%. If cheaper raw materials and efficient catalysts can be found, the method still has practical application value.
